Biography

At the age of 14 Ilse Eerens began her studies at the Lemmens Institute in Louvain. On completion of her studies she was accepted to the New Opera Academy (Amsterdam/The Hague) in 2002, and graduated with her bachelors and Masters degrees in 2004 with Jard van Nes.
In 2003 Miss Eerens was awarded first prize in the Euriade Vocal Contest in Kerkrade and in September 2004 she was the recipient the Arleen Auger prize in the International Vocal Competition in S-Hertogenbosch, being awarded a special distinction for the finalist who excelled in all the three categories of Opera, Oratorio and Lieder. In 2006 Miss Eerens was also awarded the Culture Prize for Interpretation from Youth and Music Flandres, and was awarded the 3rd prize at the ARD vocal competition.
Miss Eerens has performed with many major Orchestras including the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, The Orchestra of the 18e Century, The Dutch Radio Orchestra’s, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Arnhem Philharmonic, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Anima Eterna, the Orchestra of San Carlos Opera Lissabon.
In 2006 she has sung the role of Echo in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos and Valencienne in Die lustige Witwe with the Flemish opera. On the Summerfestival Alden Biesen she excelled as Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème. In September 2007 Ms Eerens performed the Monteverdi Operas with Netherlands Opera. In January 2008 Ilse performed concerts as Adèle in Die Fledermaus and later that year as Zerlina in Don Giovanni with the Arnhem Philharmonic. In March 2007 she sung the role of Wendla in Frühlings Erwachen (B. Mernier) at La Monnaie where she was invited back to sing Amanda in le Grand Macabre (G.Ligeti). She performed this role in Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in 2009. At the beginning of 2008 Ilse sung at the Opéra de Lyon in Lady Sarashina (P.Eötvös) and in January 2009 she was invited back there to sing Le Vin Herbé (F.Martin). In the Zaterdag Matinee (Concertgebouw Amsterdam) Ilse sang Yniold in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mèlisande and Jemmy in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell. Last Summer Ilse sang ‘Ein junges Mädchen’ and ‘1e Nackte Jungfrau’ in Moses und Aron (A.Schönberg) directed by Willy Decker for the Ruhrtriënnale Festival in Bochum.
Future engagements include the roles of Zima and Phani in Les Indes Galantes (Rameau) for the Zaterdag Matinee and Osteroratorium (Bach) with Frans Brüggen, a CD-recording of Mahlers 4th Symphony with the Arnhem Philharmonic, the 3rd Symphony of Gorecki with the Orchestra of Brabant, Blumenmädchen and 1e Knabe in Wagner’s Parsifal (la Monnaie), the reprise of Lady Sarashina (Eötvös) for Polish National Opera and Amanda in the Brussels Production of Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre at the Adelaide Music festival in Australia.
